February 2006: First Aero India airshow participation

Aero India 2007 the sixth biennial, aerospace exhibition took place at Bangalore, India, from 7 to 11 February 2007.

Dedicated to global aerospace and aviation business activity – from suppliers to aircraft manufacturers; from technology providers to services, covering an overall area of 83,000 sqm including the indoor, outdoor and static display. Aero India 2007 witnessed an increase of 50% in display area and participation. More than 500 companies from 32 countries took benefit from this business environment.

It was also the first time Schenker India and Schenker Aeroparts exhibited at Aero India air show.
Asia Pacific is a fast growing region where air transport is stimulated by a positive economy, 3.5 billion consumers, a progressive liberalisation and expansion of low cost carriers.

The Indian aviation market is booming, and traffic took off at a rate of 20%/year from 2003 to 2005. India features among the top 10 spenders in the aerospace market and is expected to be the fastest growing country for air travel in the next 10 years. Over the coming 20 years it is forecasted that the Indian aircraft fleet could grow from 190 to 1100 aircrafts (worth $105b), required on domestic, intra regional and long haul international markets.

These impressive figures explain the strong demand from the major Aerospace players to be part of the 2007 Aero India Airshow, which was also a strong opportunity for Schenker to show its brand and aerospace dedicated products. Schenker India and APAC (Singapore, China) as well as European and US managers were given the occasion to meet together and answer Indian customers and prospects questions.

Mr. Christian Nebel’s (MD – Schenker / BAX India) strong commitment towards growth of Aeroparts in India is a major factor to the current success of our aerospace business in India. Indeed Schenker India has already major contracts with IndiGo Airlines (worldwide transportation management), Associated Air Support, Rolls Royce and GoAir (warehouse management), but also is doing business with smaller aircraft and helicopter operators. Forthcoming stronger business with Kingfisher, SpiceJet and Jet Airways will give Schenker India the lead among the Aeroparts forwarders.

Under Sateshwar Tuteja (Head of Key Accounts / IVT – Schenker/BAX India) leadership SI India has attained number Four position in APAC in terms of Aeroparts Net Sales and Number of Files.

Thanks to the joint efforts of our Schenker colleagues in India and Schenker Aeroparts, this first participation proved it was worth the investment and that next Aero India in 2009 will be even better.

March 2007: Schenker undertakes Mega Airlift Project for Brunei Shell Petroleum

(Singapore/Connecticut/Brunei, 23/03/07) The world’s largest cargo airlifter in commercial operations, Antonov AN-124, arrived at Royal Brunei Air Force Base in Rimba, Brunei in late January to deliver three new Sikorsky S92A helicopters, one of the world’s largest helicopters in production, for Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP). The delivery, managed by Schenker Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Competence Centre, is a very challenging airlift from a technical perspective. Though large civil helicopters are often moved by AN-124, this is the first time that three Sikorsky S92 were transported at the same time in one single AN-124.

The three S92 helicopters, were prepped and loaded into the cargo-hall of an Antonov 124-100 on 22nd January 2007 at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut, USA, by Aeroparts Systems Division of Schenker Inc (USA). Preparation involved the dismantling and repackaging of removed components (such as rotor blades), so as to fit the S92 into the AN124 Hull. The aircraft took off on 23rd January, and stopped for fuel at Anchorage in Alaska and Khabarovsk in Eastern Russia prior to its arrival in Brunei.

The helicopters’ removed components were then transported separately via freighter to Singapore, and subsequently arrived in Brunei from Singapore by one Antonov AN-12 and another Antonov AN-26 on 26th and 28th January respectively. All the Antonov charters were made by the Charter Division of Schenker in Germany.

Capt Jonathan Phillips, Head of Aircraft Services, BSP said, “Due to the very challenging technical requirements of the charter project, we needed to partner a competent Global Logistics service provider that not only understood our unique requirements, but also had the depth of expertise across verticals and extensive global network to make this happen.

Schenker was awarded this charter because of these criteria.«

September 2007: Hong Kong Air Show

1st participation to the Hong Kong Airshow

The Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress, Asia’s premier commercial aerospace event, took place in Hong Kong from September 3-6, 2007. the event provided an excellent platform for business and networking to companies working within the commercial aviation supply chain. Over 500 exhibiting companies from 20 countries got together with 11,000 visitors from 69 countries.

Together with the global aeroparts team, Schenker China was onsite with an own stand, demonstrating our expertise in this key market. The feedback of our aeroparts colleagues was very good.

“The exhibition was well organized with separate areas dedicated to manufacturers, MRO
companies and airlines as well as interiors and airfreight and the focus was clearly on civil aviation while most other shows focus strongly also on military. Besides, the show was purely a B2B event
and very international, almost all professionals from the industry were there and the contacts we got were of very high quality,” say Leslie Chan and Julien Bachelet, the PMs Aeroparts in South and North
China.

Christian Puel, Regional Manager of the Competence Centre Aerospace, sums up: “We got many good leads and were able to re-establish our networks. It was important for us to be here to further develop our business in China and Asia Pacific. Thanks especially to the management of Schenker China – without their support we would have not been able to participate!”

The team will certainly be busy following up on their many leads within the weeks and months to come until the next big event – the Singapore Airshow 2008 in February.
