Improved service levels and substantial cost savings

Goodrich Power Systems, a division of one of the world's leading aircraft electronics systems providers – Goodrich Corporation – has renewed and extended its contract with Schenker Limited in the UK. Since first winning the company's logistics business in April 2006, DB Schenker and Goodrich have enjoyed a highly successful working relationship, with DB Schenker delivering not only improved service but also providing the customer with substantial cost savings throughout the business. The new extended and expanded contract will run for two years.
Initially, DB Schenker looked after Goodrich Power Systems' air freight requirements only – both import and export – primarily to and from Canada and the USA.This was then extended to encompass the despatch process on site. Additional business was won by liaising closely and working on a package which reduced overall shipping costs by some 20 percent through identifying key trade lanes and their volumes. One innovation to the account was the introduction of a bespoke small parcels service for the significant proportion of the business involving parcels weighing less than 25 kilograms. This has enabled the company to save up to a third on previous shipment costs for such items. An improved month-end process has been expanded to include some ocean and land solutions and additional resources have been deployed at the Goodrich facility in Buckinghamshire. These employees are fully responsible for running the despatch and goods-in processes and have been cross-trained to provide greater on-site productivity combined with a full understanding of the customer's business requirements.
Goodrich Power Systems' Senior Commodity Manager, Bill Deaton, said: "DB Schenker has worked with us to overcome process issues and meet our bespoke requirements by providing a value-added in-house team covering goods-in and despatch functions. Following a successful implementation and having overcome the initial challenges, we are looking forward to working with DB Schenker to realize further cost savings and develop and broaden the scope of work." Handling aeroparts for pilgrims

DB Schenker in Jeddah is now providing AOG services for AlWafeer Air, a new charter carrier who is specialized in organizing flights for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from all over the world. 'AOG' stands for 'Aircraft On Ground'. If the parts are not cleared and delivered to the aircraft in time, the plane will not be allowed to take off and will stay on ground, a situation which the airline wants to avoid.
For the maintenance of the planes, spare parts are being flown in to Jeddah from different origins. These parts need to be custom cleared extremely fast to avoid delays in the scheduled flights. DB Schenker in Jeddah has been appointed by AlWafeer Air to ensure this express customs clearance at the airport. When one of their aircrafts is in a foreign airport and requires parts, DB Schenker organizes the export from Jeddah to the destination, always using the fastest possible connection.
Besides the actual customs clearing, this service also demands very close follow up and communication with the involved authorities, ground handling agent and airlines. (DB Schenker Saudi Arabia – Emanuel Avermaete)
